The Sand Trap, one of the best golf blogs I know, has published a analysis of the PGA Tour’s stats in 2006.

The main conclussions in the article? Driving distance is down, driving accuracy is up and greens in regulation (GIR) is up too, while putting average remains constant (1.712 putts per GIR). A very interesting analysis and one more data point for the distance vs accuracy debate.

The article does raise another good point: most of the best players in the world are reducing their calendars. We all know Tiger was the first one to do so, concentrating his schedule on the main tournaments, but it looks like most of the other top players are following him now.

How do your stats compare with the top players’? Check out golfity, where you will be able to keep track of your scores and calculate all your golf stats.

One of the main things you will want to check in golfity are your main stats, which include average scoring, putts, fairways hit, greens in regulation, scrambling and stableford points. Let’s have a look at these example stats:

As we can see in the chart, this player has an average scoring of 85.2 shots and 34.8 putts. He hits 59.2% of the fairways and reaches 39.8% of the greens in regulation (that’s around 7 greens per round). As for scrambling, this player manages to save par in 17.8% of the holes where he misses the green.

In the table below the chart we can see the same average scores plus some more information, as the best and worst scores in each of the categories (for example, his best score was a 75 and if you click on it you will see the scorecard for that round). The table also shows net scores and also calculates average stableford points.

If you check your stats you will see that below the table you have a few options to filter the scores included in the stats. For example, you can calculate the stats using only scores within the last six months, only rounds played in a given course or only official competition rounds.

We just added a new feature to track the evolution of your game over time. It’s a chart where can see the evolution of your stats (scoring, putts, fairways hit and greens in regulation) over time. You can see the evolution round by round or you can group the stats by months, quarters or years and get average stats for each period.
