Show off your golf scores on your website

If you have a website or a blog, we have developed a Google Gadget that allows you to show your latest scores (or your friends’ scores) on your site. If you look at the sidebar of this blog, you’ll see the gadget in action, showing the latest scores in golfity.

It’s very easy to install, you just have to visit this page, configure the gadget the way you want (you can change the width, height, number of scores shown, etc) and when you’re ready just click on “Get the code” and copy and paste the code on your website.

PGA Tour stats, 2006 vs 2005

The Sand Trap, one of the best golf blogs I know, has published a analysis of the PGA Tour’s stats in 2006.

The main conclussions in the article? Driving distance is down, driving accuracy is up and greens in regulation (GIR) is up too, while putting average remains constant (1.712 putts per GIR). A very interesting analysis and one more data point for the distance vs accuracy debate.

The article does raise another good point: most of the best players in the world are reducing their calendars. We all know Tiger was the first one to do so, concentrating his schedule on the main tournaments, but it looks like most of the other top players are following him now.

Your golf stats in golfity

One of the main things you will want to check in golfity are your main stats, which include average scoring, putts, fairways hit, greens in regulation, scrambling and stableford points. Let’s have a look at these example stats:

As we can see in the chart, this player has an average scoring of 85.2 shots and 34.8 putts. He hits 59.2% of the fairways and reaches 39.8% of the greens in regulation (that’s around 7 greens per round). As for scrambling, this player manages to save par in 17.8% of the holes where he misses the green.

In the table below the chart we can see the same average scores plus some more information, as the best and worst scores in each of the categories (for example, his best score was a 75 and if you click on it you will see the scorecard for that round). The table also shows net scores and also calculates average stableford points.

If you check your stats you will see that below the table you have a few options to filter the scores included in the stats. For example, you can calculate the stats using only scores within the last six months, only rounds played in a given course or only official competition rounds.

Track the evolution of your game

We just added a new feature to track the evolution of your game over time. It’s a chart where can see the evolution of your stats (scoring, putts, fairways hit and greens in regulation) over time. You can see the evolution round by round or you can group the stats by months, quarters or years and get average stats for each period.

Welcome to golfity’s blog, a place where we will keep you informed of the latest developments in golfity.

golfity is a site where you can keep track of your golf scores, storing all the rounds you have played. Based on those scores, golfity will calculate your detailed stats, everything from average scoring and putting, fairways hit, greens in regulation, etc. You will be able to analyze your game just like the pros do, and hopefully you will learn where your weak spots are and improve your scoring.

Additionally golfity acts a social network for golfers. You will be able to share your scores and stats with your friends, compare your stats with your friends’ (see if you can beat your friend in putting average, although he is better than you in driving accuracy) and you will also be able to meet new people in golfity. Imagine you are going to play in a golf course you don’t know all by yourself… in golfity you can find people who usually play that course and you will be able to contact them and arrange a round of colf.

We will use this blog to publish the latest news on golfity and to announce the new features we expect to add in the near future. We also expect you use this blog to tell us your opinion about golfity, we are very interested in what our users think.
